The King William Unit of the NAACP has been established since the early 1900's. It has worked closely with the Pamunkey Baptist Association throughout the years and mainly conducted its business through the churches in the area. In recent years, the Branch did work to acquire a community block grant to renovate dilapidated homes in the Mt. Olive-Cohoke Community. A spinoff of this project was the Bay Aging Transit Project. In August 2021, the Branch established its new office space, and took other strides to bring the Branch current with organizational practices of the time.
